LIVE REPORT: Hyperdub at Koko for The Quietus
Yet more bass-led and/or ambient brilliance emanating from Hyperdub, the London label set up by Kode9 (Steve Goodman) in 2004. The label is ruder health than ever following the string of intriguing releases it has put out this year - not least those by Detroit's urban sound sculptor Laurel Halo, south London's soulful dub producer Cooly G (above), and knockabout grimy-funkster Scratcha DVA. They all played Koko on Wednesday, as I reported on The Quietus.

Walking to Essex for Pages Of magazine
Over the winter I walked from London to my hometown of Leigh-on-Sea, near Southend and Canvey Island in Essex. The point was to mimic the migration of Essex-people of the early-to-mid 20th century, following the slum clearances and general search for a better life that happened to East Enders before and after the Second World War. I wrote it up for the pilot issue of the exciting new Pages Of magazine, who decided to run it over six pages. The magazine is purchasable £4 from various newsagents and galleries in London.
